Muirín
O'Briain comes from a background in the Social Sciences.
With an interest in Irish emigration and postgraduate
research work on the history and settlement of the
Irish immigrant community in London, she became
a member of the Association of Professional Genealogists
in Ireland in 1995.
She
served as an APGI consultant in the Genealogical
Advisory Service at the Genealogical Office in Dublin
from 1995 and subsequently at the National Library
of Ireland when the Advisory Service transferred
there in 1998.
She
served as a director of Irish Genealogical Congress
Limited and was a member of the 3rd Irish Genealogical
Congress Committee. From 1997 to 2001 she was Secretary
of the Ireland Branch of the Irish Genealogical
